What we do differently east of Honour Avenue
Honour Avenue and the railway line mark Chelmer’s flood boundary. In January 2011, nearly everything east of that line went under. If your property sits on the river side of it, that is not history — it is a design constraint on your security system.
The recorder goes high, not low
The default spot for a CCTV recorder is an under-house cupboard or a garage shelf. On the flood side of Chelmer that is the first thing destroyed, and it takes every second of footage with it. We mount recorders above the 2011 line — a first-floor robe, a linen cupboard, or a ventilated roof-space enclosure.
Footage leaves the building

No ceiling cavity
Most Chelmer homes are VJ-lined with no accessible ceiling space. We use surface conduit colour-matched to the trim and routed along existing lines, so it reads as part of the house rather than an afterthought.
Original weatherboard
Heritage-sensitive fixings, minimal penetrations, and we avoid drilling original façade timber wherever an alternative exists — gate posts and fence returns instead.
Homes on stumps
Underfloor runs are genuinely easier here, but they need vermin-rated conduit and proper ingress sealing or you will have possums and water in your cabling.
Mature tree canopy
Infra-red bounces off nearby foliage and washes out night footage. We position to avoid it and use dual-technology detection so wind does not trigger your alarm.
Deep setbacks
The front door is a long way from the street on a Chelmer block, so the driveway entry camera earns its place before the door camera does.
Wide verandahs
Great for concealed, weather-protected mounting — but eaves depth changes the angle, so mounting height is set per elevation, not by a rule of thumb.

Not if it is set up properly. Chelmer’s canopy causes two real problems — infra-red bouncing off foliage at night, and movement triggering detectors. We handle the first with camera positioning and the second with dual-technology detectors and correctly configured detection zones.
How long does a CCTV installation take?
