Most Brisbane security installers can handle a 4-bedroom single-storey home. Far fewer can handle the jobs the rest of the industry quietly walks away from: heritage buildings, multi-building rural properties, sites with no comms infrastructure, mixed-tenant strata blocks, federation homes with plaster ceilings and no roof cavity, and large-acreage properties where camera-to-NVR distances blow past standard cable runs.

Site types we routinely solve
1. Heritage Brisbane homes — Queenslanders, Federation, post-war
VJ walls, plaster ceilings, no roof cavity (or “roof crawl” that’s 400mm clearance). Original wiring intermixed with 70 years of renovations. Standard cabling approaches don’t fit; standard installer quotes assume they do, which is why you get hit with $1,200+ in unexpected variations.
Our approach: pre-quote inspection with a borescope camera into wall cavities + roof spaces. Detailed cable-routing plan before pricing. Where wall routing isn’t possible, we use surface-mount conduit colour-matched to skirting, or wireless backhaul with battery cameras for genuinely impossible runs. Pricing includes the inspection variation upfront.
2. Multi-building rural / acreage properties
Main house + shed + workshop + garage spread across 2-10 acres. Standard CAT6 runs cap at 90m. We design with: PoE extenders, fibre-to-PoE-converter backbones for runs over 200m, weatherproof junction boxes at every cable transition, lightning protection on every cable entry to a building.
Typical job: 3-building Samford acreage with 12 cameras across main house, shed, and front gate. Total cable run 600m+. Fibre backbone main house to shed, CAT6 within each building. NVR centralised in main house comms cabinet. ~$8,500 supplied + installed for that scale.
3. Federation homes with plaster ceilings and no roof cavity
Common in New Farm, Hawthorne, Bardon. Roof cavity has 200mm clearance, plaster ceilings won’t take face-mount cameras without sagging, original cornice work makes wall channels visually destructive. We mount cameras to eaves with concealed cable through eave linings, sometimes co-routing via existing downlight cabling channels with electrician sign-off.
4. Sites with no comms cabling
Rural properties without NBN, off-grid builds, mining accommodation, remote workshops. We install with: solar-charged PoE-powered cameras (Reolink-style trail systems sized up to commercial grade), 4G cellular NVR backhaul with monthly data plan, local NVR with manual SD-card retrieval as fallback. Footage available via 4G to your phone with bandwidth throttling on the cellular link.
5. Mixed-tenant strata + body-corporate buildings
Different unit owners have different security expectations. Body corp owns the common areas; individual lots have their own systems. We’ve handled multi-system installs where common-area Dahua CCTV runs alongside individual-unit Akuvox intercoms, with cleanly segregated networks (VLANs) so individual owners can’t view common-area footage and vice versa.
6. Commercial sites with shift-workers and 24/7 operations
Warehouses, manufacturing, hospitality. Standard install windows don’t work — they need to be installed during change-over windows or out-of-hours. We run nightshift installs (with surcharge) for sites that can’t have day-time disruption.
7. Construction sites and partial-occupancy buildings
New builds where you want CCTV before move-in but the build is still active. We pre-cable during sparkie rough-in, fit cameras after handover. Coordination with the builder’s project manager is part of the scope.
Our diagnostic-first process
Standard installer flow: quote → install → discover problems → variation. Our flow for complex sites: diagnose → quote with explicit assumptions → install → handover.
Step 1: Free phone scoping (15 min)
Tell me what you’ve got, what you’ve tried, what the previous installer said couldn’t be done. I’ll tell you if it’s in our wheelhouse.
Step 2: On-site assessment ($340 + GST)
2-3 hours on site with borescope, cable tester, network analyser, signal meter. Document everything: cable paths possible/impossible, signal strength, comms options, structural constraints. Output: a written design document with photo evidence.
If you proceed with us, the $340 is credited against the install. If you don’t, you keep the design document — useful for getting other quotes.
Step 3: Fixed-price quote
Every assumption explicit. Every potential variation called out before signing. No “we found something in the wall, that’s another $800” surprises.
Step 4: Install
We do the work. If we find something the assessment missed, that’s on us — we absorb the cost.
Step 5: Handover
You get every credential, every app, every config, every cable diagram. Documented, photographed, archived. If we ever leave the industry, you can hand the docs to any competent installer and they can pick up exactly where we left off.
Pricing transparency
Complex sites cost more than standard installs. We don’t hide that. Typical pricing bands for the categories above:
- Heritage Brisbane home, 6 cameras + alarm: $5,800-$7,400
- Multi-building rural, 8-12 cameras + alarm: $7,500-$11,000
- Mixed-tenant strata, common-area CCTV + per-unit intercom (5-15 units): Quote per project, typically $2,200-$3,400 per unit + $5,000-$9,000 for common-area infrastructure
- Off-grid solar-PoE system, 4-8 cameras: $9,500-$14,000 including solar hardware
FAQ
How do you handle sites where you can’t access the roof cavity?
Eave-mounted cameras with cabling concealed inside eave linings, or wall-mount with surface conduit colour-matched. For truly impossible runs, wireless PoE links or 4G-cellular cameras with on-camera storage.
Do you do commercial fit-outs for shift-work sites?
Yes — overnight install slots available with surcharge (typically +30-50%). We’ve completed hospitality fit-outs in CBD venues that operate 24/7 with no daytime closure.
What if the previous installer left a half-finished system?
We do takeover and completion jobs frequently. Site assessment fee is $340 the same as new builds. We document existing state, assess what’s usable, quote completion or full replacement.
Are there sites you won’t take?
Genuinely yes — sites where the customer wants illegal coverage (recording neighbour’s private space, audio without consent, etc.) or where the budget can’t physically support a working system at code. We’d rather decline than build something that doesn’t actually work.
