The new lower level is now a real room
What used to be open under-house parking is now enclosed living space, a rumpus or a garage — often with the least secure doors and windows in the house, because they were built to a budget after the main job. That level usually deserves its own detection, not just a camera pointed at it.
Everything is a metre or more higher
Mounting heights that suit a standard Queenslander put a camera too high on a raised one, and a camera looking down at a steep angle records the top of a head, not a face. Heights get set from the ground up on site, per elevation.
The stair and the entry moved
Raising changes where people actually approach the house. The old front-door camera angle frequently no longer covers the real entry path once a new stair is built. We work from how the house is used now, not how it was drawn.
New cavities to run through
The upside: a raised house usually gives genuinely good cable paths through the new lower level, so you can often avoid touching original fabric entirely.
Two floods in eleven years is a design constraint
2011 and 2022 both put water through parts of Graceville. Whatever your view on how often it will happen again, it is not a freak event you can design around by ignoring it.
The recorder goes high

The single exception is Dahua TiOC cameras on an Ajax recorder, because the deterrence is built into the camera itself. Installing without altering the streetscape
The front elevation is the sensitive one
Character controls are mostly about what the street sees. We keep hardware off the primary facade where possible, using the return walls, the side of the verandah, gate posts and fence lines instead.
Surface conduit, colour matched
Where a run has to be visible, it gets colour matched to the trim and routed along an existing line — a bargeboard, a stringer, a corner join — so it reads as part of the building.
Minimal penetrations into original timber
We avoid drilling original weatherboard wherever an alternative fixing exists, and we tell you before anything is fixed rather than after.
Mature street trees
