The Akuvox range

Six intercom and access lines we install across Brisbane.

Akuvox is built for both single-family homes and large multi-tenant buildings, with the same SmartPlus app stack across the range. Below is what Mr Secured actually installs.

Premium home

Akuvox X912 video intercom

The flagship 7" Android-powered door panel. Face recognition, BLE app-unlock, RFID card, PIN code, and traditional doorbell button — five ways for the family to get in, all from one panel. 4K-grade door camera, IP65-rated for Brisbane storms.

Multi-tenant entrance

Akuvox R29 entrance panel

The body-corporate door panel. Up to 10,000 unit lookups, building directory with photos, video call to any unit's indoor monitor or app. Vandal-proof IK10 housing. Used in apartment lobbies, gated communities, and commercial buildings.

Single-family classic

Akuvox R20 series doorbell

The single-button video doorbell for a typical Brisbane home. Wide-angle camera, two-way audio, integrates with the SmartPlus app on your phone. Cleanest install pattern when you don't need a wall-mounted indoor monitor.

Indoor monitor

Akuvox IT83 / IT88 indoor monitor

Wall-mounted answering monitor for inside the home. 7"–10" touchscreen. Handles incoming intercom calls, lets the family see and unlock for visitors without reaching for a phone. Optional integration with the Dahua NVR for live CCTV view on the same screen.

Commercial access

Akuvox A03 / A05 access reader

Standalone RFID + face-recognition access reader for commercial doors. Works without a video intercom panel — front door, side door, server room, warehouse roller door. Connects to the same SmartPlus management portal.

The cloud

Akuvox SmartPlus app + management portal

The mobile + cloud stack that ties it together. Family members get the SmartPlus app on their phone — answer the door, unlock, watch a stored snapshot. Property managers and body-corp committees get the management portal to add or remove residents, audit access, push firmware.

What makes Akuvox different

Six features that separate Akuvox from a Ring doorbell.

Ring doorbells are a $300 retail product. Akuvox is professional-grade access control. These six features are what you're paying the gap for.

Five ways to unlock

Face recognition, RFID card, BLE phone proximity, PIN code, traditional button. Family members pick the method they prefer — kids use RFID tags, adults use face-rec, guests get a temporary PIN.

Multi-tenant capacity

The R29 panel handles up to 10,000 unit lookups. Ring doorbells max out at one household. Akuvox is the brand body-corporate buildings actually choose because it scales.

No monthly subscription

SmartPlus app is free. Cloud management is free for property managers. Ring charges $15/month for cloud video; Akuvox doesn't. Footage and event log are local to the panel.

Integrates with Dahua + Ajax

Akuvox panels can trigger Ajax alarm scenarios (auto-disarm when family unlocks), and the IT83 indoor monitor can show live Dahua NVR feeds. One unified app stack across CCTV + alarm + intercom.

Vandal + weather rated

Outdoor panels are IP65 (rain) + IK08–IK10 (impact). Brisbane storms, kids with cricket bats, and would-be intruders with hammers don't easily defeat the panel.

Commercial-grade reliability

Akuvox panels are deployed in hotels, hospitals, and government sites worldwide. The hardware platform is the same one body-corporate buildings buy — built for 10,000+ unlock events a year, not 50.

Common Brisbane install patterns
Integration Spotlight

Arm & disarm your AJAX alarm from your Akuvox monitor.

One screen, both systems. Watch an AJAX Hub 2 integrated into an Akuvox S562 indoor monitor — tap to arm, tap to disarm, no second app, no separate keypad. This is one of the integrations that puts Akuvox above every other intercom platform we install in Brisbane.

Common questions

Akuvox FAQs.

Does Akuvox replace my old doorbell?

Yes. Mr Secured de-mounts your existing doorbell, runs Cat6 cabling to the new Akuvox panel location (or re-uses serviceable existing cabling), mounts the new panel, configures the SmartPlus app on family phones, and trains you on the system. Typical 1-day install for a residential property.

Can the body corporate adopt Akuvox in stages?

Yes. The R29 entrance panel can be installed first with the existing tenant directory, then individual units can upgrade their indoor monitors to IT83 over time. Each unit's app access is managed through the cloud portal, so an owner moving in 6 months from now can be added without re-configuring the panel.

Does Akuvox need a monthly subscription?

No. The SmartPlus app is free for residents. The management portal is free for property managers and body-corporate committees. Akuvox monetises through hardware, not recurring fees — unlike Ring, Eufy, or other consumer-brand video doorbells which charge $10–$20/month for cloud video.

What happens to access if a resident moves out?

The property manager (for body-corp) or homeowner (for residential) revokes the resident's app access through the SmartPlus portal — typically takes 30 seconds. Their face-rec template is deleted, their RFID card is deactivated, their app is logged out. The new resident gets fresh credentials. No system reset, no rekey of physical locks.

Does Akuvox integrate with my Dahua CCTV or Ajax alarm?

Yes, both. The IT83 indoor monitor can show live Dahua NVR feeds on the same touchscreen. Akuvox panels can trigger Ajax alarm scenarios — for example, auto-disarm the alarm when a family member unlocks the front door with face recognition. Mr Secured configures the integration at install time so the three systems behave as one.

Why Akuvox is our primary intercom brand

Mr Secured (and our sister business Intercom Solutions) installs Akuvox as the primary intercom platform for Brisbane apartment buildings, body corporate complexes, and high-end residential properties. The choice is deliberate, and it comes down to four things: cybersecurity certification, app quality, integration depth, and warranty support in Australia.

Akuvox is Korean-engineered (manufactured in Xiamen, China under Korean ownership and product management), and they hold ISO 27001 certification — the international cybersecurity standard that matters for body corporate compliance tenders and for sites where the intercom is internet-connected. That last point is critical: every cloud-connected intercom is a potential attack surface, and Akuvox is one of only a handful of brands with formally audited security posture.

For Brisbane buyers comparing options, our installer's view is straightforward: Akuvox delivers the same app polish and feature set as Aiphone GT or 2N Verso 2 at roughly 15-25% lower hardware cost, with stronger native integration into Dahua CCTV (which we install on the same sites) and a more reliable Australian distributor warranty path than the parallel-import Hikvision intercom range.

The Akuvox range we install in Brisbane

Akuvox produces a wide product catalogue. The specific units we install in Brisbane are the ones with strong Australian distributor support, NDAA-compliant supply chain where relevant, and proven field reliability:

R29 Series — Apartment Building Door Station

Flagship door station for apartment buildings and body corporate entries. 8" capacitive touchscreen, facial recognition (optional), HD camera with WDR, RFID/PIN/Bluetooth/QR code unlock, SIP video calls to apartments. The R29C and R29S are our standard pick for 20-80 unit buildings.

X912S / X915S — Premium Door Station

The X912 / X915 line is for high-end residential and luxury apartment buildings. Larger display, premium build, on-glass camera, NDAA-compliant variant available. Where the spec calls for the "best" intercom, this is what we install.

E11 / E12 / E16 / E18 — Compact Door Stations

Compact metal-bezel units suitable for villa, townhouse, body corporate visitor entries, and secondary entrances. The E11 (single button) and E18 (multi-button up to 8) cover most house-scale and small-multi-unit installs.

IT82 / IT83 / IT88 — Indoor Monitors

SIP indoor monitors with HD video. IT82W (7") and IT88S (10") are our standard residential indoor units. They handle video calling, intercom unlock, app push-through, and integrate with the SmartPlus mobile app for in-apartment use.

SmartPlus Cloud + Mobile App

The Akuvox SmartPlus cloud platform delivers smartphone calls (residents answer the door from their phone anywhere in the world), virtual keys, time-based access, delivery codes, and full audit logs. This is what makes Akuvox a 2026-grade intercom rather than a 2015-grade one.

NDAA-Compliant Variants

Akuvox provides NDAA Section 889-compliant variants for government and defence-adjacent procurement. We can source the NDAA-compliant SKU on request for tenders that require it.

Where Akuvox is the right intercom — and where it isn't

We are honest about brand fit. Akuvox is the right intercom for these situations:

  • Brisbane apartment buildings (20-200 units) — R29 series at the front entry plus IT82/IT88 indoor monitors per apartment plus SmartPlus mobile app for residents. This is the modal Akuvox install.
  • Body corporate complexes — Townhouse complexes, gated communities, mixed-use towers. Akuvox's multi-resident directory and time-based visitor access fit body corp operating rules cleanly.
  • High-end residential — Riverfront homes, acreage with gated entries, luxury townhouses where the buyer wants the app + facial recognition + integration with their existing Dahua CCTV.
  • Sites with existing Dahua CCTV — Akuvox integrates natively with Dahua DSS and Dahua NVRs over ONVIF, allowing intercom-triggered camera recording and unified mobile-app viewing.

Akuvox is not the right pick when:

  • The spec explicitly requires Aiphone GT (still the dominant Australian apartment intercom standard for legacy buildings; we install Aiphone where the building is already wired for it).
  • The site has an existing 2N Verso deployment and a 2N service contract — we don't recommend mixing brands.
  • The procurement spec mandates Hikvision-compatible hardware (we do not install Hikvision intercoms; see our NDAA explainer).

Akuvox vs Aiphone vs 2N — the brand comparison

The intercom market in Brisbane is dominated by three premium brands: Akuvox, Aiphone GT, and 2N. Each has its strengths.

What an Akuvox install in Brisbane includes

A standard Akuvox installation from Mr Secured includes the following scope. We give you a fixed-price written quote covering all of this within 24 hours of site assessment:

  1. Site assessment — on-site visit, evaluating cable paths, power requirements, network connectivity, existing wiring (for retrofits), and tenant/owner approvals.
  2. Hardware specification — exact Akuvox model numbers, indoor monitor count, network switch + PoE injector requirements.
  3. Cabling — Cat6 PoE runs from entry door station to network rack, indoor monitor runs to apartments, power redundancy. Where retrofitting on existing 2-wire, we evaluate compatibility.
  4. Network integration — configuration on a separate VLAN for security isolation, SIP server setup (cloud or on-premise), firewall rules.
  5. SmartPlus account setup — one account per resident, manager dashboard for building owner / body corp committee, app onboarding instructions.
  6. Commissioning — door open test, SIP call test from every indoor monitor, app push test from every resident phone, documentation handed over.
  7. Resident onboarding — printed QR code cards or onboarding email pack for tenants, support process documentation.
  8. Warranty and ongoing support — manufacturer 2-3 year hardware warranty plus 24-month installation warranty, optional maintenance contract for body corporate sites.
For body corporate / strata committees: we provide a separate detailed quote package suitable for AGM presentation, including 5-year total cost of ownership, ongoing maintenance schedule, and warranty pass-through documentation. Email Mr Secured.Brisbane@gmail.com with your building address and unit count.

Frequently asked questions about Akuvox

Is Akuvox a good intercom brand?

Akuvox is one of the strongest intercom brands available in Australia in 2026. The hardware is Korean-engineered, ISO 27001 cybersecurity certified, supports native SIP, and the SmartPlus mobile app is genuinely good. We install it as our primary intercom brand for Brisbane apartments and body corporate sites. The main consideration is brand fit — Akuvox is the right pick for new installs and most retrofits, but if a building is already wired for Aiphone GT we typically recommend staying with Aiphone for compatibility.

Is Akuvox NDAA compliant?

Akuvox produces NDAA Section 889-compliant variants for government and defence-adjacent procurement. The standard commercial range is appropriate for residential, body corporate, and most commercial use. For sites that explicitly require NDAA compliance — for example federal government tenders or defence-adjacent contractor premises — we source the NDAA-compliant SKU at install time.

Can Akuvox replace my Aiphone GT system?

Yes — we routinely replace ageing Aiphone GT systems with Akuvox in Brisbane apartment buildings. The retrofit path depends on whether the building is wired for 2-wire (older GT-DB) or Cat5/6 (newer GT). For 2-wire retrofits we use Akuvox 2-wire compatible indoor monitors or an SIP-to-2-wire bridge. The cost premium for a retrofit over a new build is typically 15-25%.

Does Akuvox work with my Dahua CCTV?

Yes — Akuvox integrates natively with Dahua via ONVIF and supports direct integration with Dahua DSS (the Dahua VMS platform). When someone presses the doorbell, the nearest Dahua camera can be triggered to record automatically, and the live camera feed can be viewed from the Akuvox indoor monitor or the SmartPlus mobile app. We install this combination frequently.

What warranty does Akuvox come with in Australia?

The standard Akuvox manufacturer warranty in Australia is 2 years on hardware, with some authorised distributors offering 3 years as a competitive sweetener. Mr Secured includes 24 months on installation work on top of the manufacturer warranty — meaning the workmanship is covered separately from the hardware. For body corporate sites we offer optional maintenance contracts that extend support coverage.

How does the SmartPlus app work?

SmartPlus is the Akuvox cloud platform plus mobile app. When a visitor presses the doorbell, the SmartPlus app rings on the resident's phone (anywhere in the world). The resident can see HD video, talk to the visitor, and unlock the door from the app. Residents can also generate virtual keys (time-limited unlock codes) to share with cleaners, deliveries, or guests, and the platform logs every unlock event for audit purposes. The app is included free with the hardware for residential use; body corporate / commercial deployments have a small per-unit monthly cloud fee.

Do I need to replace my existing wiring to install Akuvox?

For new installations we run Cat6 PoE cabling — this is the standard 2026 install pattern. For retrofits over existing 2-wire (most older Aiphone GT and Bosch buildings), we evaluate whether the existing cable can carry the SIP signal or whether new cabling is required. In most Brisbane apartment buildings we've worked on, partial re-cabling is needed but full-building rip-and-replace is rare.

How much does an Akuvox install cost in Brisbane?

A single-family house Akuvox install with one door station, one indoor monitor, and the SmartPlus app starts from around $2,400. A small body corporate (8-16 units) typically falls in the $9,800-$14,500 range. Mid-sized apartment buildings (20-50 units) are usually $24,000-$48,000. Pricing depends on building size, cable runs, retrofit complexity, and apartment count — we provide a fixed written quote within 24 hours of site assessment.
