How Much Security Does Your Brisbane Home Actually Need?
Straight answer from installers who quote this every day: most homes don’t need the biggest system — they need the right one. Here’s how we size it, including when a smaller setup (or even DIY) is honestly enough.
The four home types we quote most
1. Small unit or townhouse — keep it lean
One or two entry points. Usually 2–3 cameras (entry + carport/rear), or a doorbell camera plus one fixed camera. An alarm only if you’re often away.
Not for: larger corner blocks or homes with side access.
2. Standard family home — the sweet spot
Single-storey, front + rear yard. 4–5 cameras on the corners per our standard layout, NVR in the garage, optional Ajax alarm (hub, 4 sensors, 2 doors, siren) if you want inside detection.
This is most Brisbane homes. See our package pricing for real numbers.
3. Double-storey or corner block — cover the angles
5–6 cameras (both street frontages on a corner), higher mounting, and cabling that justifies professional install. App control matters more here — see app-controlled systems.
Not for: budget-first buyers — double-storey cabling is real labour.
4. Acreage, rural or multi-building — engineered, not guessed
Long ranges, gates, sheds. This is designed security: perimeter detection (Ajax DualCurtain/MotionCam), long-range cameras, sometimes 4G/solar. Site visit first, always.
This is where cheap kits genuinely fail.
When we’ll tell you NOT to buy more
We put this in writing because it’s how we quote: if a doorbell camera solves your problem, we’ll say so. If your existing system needs two cameras moved rather than replaced, we’ll say that too. Oversized systems create maintenance, cost and complexity you don’t need — and they’re why people distrust security companies. The right system is the one sized to your actual risks: entries, sight lines, and what you’d want on footage if something happened.
Is the premium actually worth it — or are you paying for the label?
Fair question, and one we get asked a lot. The honest answer: the sticker price of a proper install is higher than a DIY kit or a national-chain special. What you’re paying for isn’t a badge — it’s the total cost over the years the system actually has to work.
No cloud subscription lock-in
We design around local NVR storage and no forced monthly cloud fee, so you’re not renting access to your own footage for the life of the system.
One team, accountable for years
In-house Brisbane technicians, no subcontractors. When something needs attention two years on, you deal with the people who built it — not a call centre or a company that’s moved on.
Fewer nuisance callouts
A system designed and commissioned properly — right camera, right spot, pet-aware alarm tuning — means fewer false alarms and fewer "why isn’t this working" days.
Cheaper up front, more over time — or a bit more up front and left alone for years. For most Brisbane homes and businesses that’s the real trade-off, and it’s why we’ll happily tell you when a smaller system (or even a good DIY kit) is genuinely enough. If it isn’t, we’ll show you exactly why.
Monitoring your way — no lock-in
You don’t have to sign a long monitoring contract to have a system that responds. Every setup is built around a single app so you can see your cameras, arm and disarm your alarm, and get alerts on your phone from anywhere. Want a monitoring service on top? That’s optional — not a lock-in you’re forced into to make the system work.
