CCTV — general questions
Is Hikvision banned in Australia?
Hikvision is not legally banned for general commercial or residential use in Australia, but it is banned under the US National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Section 889 for US federal procurement, and the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) has flagged concerns about Chinese-government-affiliated CCTV hardware on sensitive sites. Major Australian government departments have removed Hikvision and Dahua from sensitive sites. For Brisbane residential and commercial installs, Mr Secured does not install Hikvision — we use Dahua (Australian-distributed NDAA-compliant range) and Hanwha Wisenet instead. See our Dahua vs Hikvision Australia explainer.
Do I need a licence to install CCTV in Queensland?
Yes. Queensland law requires anyone installing security cameras with door release, alarms, or access control to hold a Class 2 Security Provider Licence issued by the Office of Fair Trading. Mr Secured holds licence #4546326. Always check your installer has a valid Class 2 — installers without it cannot legally install your system, and your homeowner insurance discount for licensed-install security systems will not apply.
What’s the difference between Dahua TiOC and standard CCTV cameras?
TiOC stands for “Three-in-One Camera” — colour-night vision, AI human/vehicle detection, and active deterrence (red/blue strobe + 100dB siren + two-way audio). Standard CCTV cameras only record after-the-fact. TiOC attempts to stop the intrusion in progress. For Brisbane residential where opportunist break-ins are the dominant threat, TiOC is the right choice. See our active deterrence explainer.
Can I use Wi-Fi cameras instead of wired PoE CCTV?
Technically yes, practically no for a real security system. Wi-Fi cameras drop connection during heavy network use, storm interference, and (importantly) when an intruder triggers a Wi-Fi jammer — these are commercially available for under $100 in Australia. Real CCTV uses Power-over-Ethernet (PoE+) cabling for the same reason critical infrastructure uses wired networking — guaranteed connection. Wi-Fi cameras are fine for a baby monitor, not for protecting a $1.5M Brisbane home.
How many cameras do I need for a Brisbane family home?
Six is the sweet spot for most Brisbane 4-bed family homes. Coverage: driveway, front entry, both side returns, rear yard, garage interior. Anything less leaves a gap that an intruder will find. For larger acreage homes (The Gap, Pullenvale, Brookfield, Anstead), 8-12 cameras is typical to cover detached sheds and longer driveways.
How much does CCTV installation cost in Brisbane in 2026?
Realistic Brisbane CCTV pricing tiers — Mr Secured 2026: 4-camera package from $4,800. 6-camera package from $7,500 standard, $8,500 premium. 8-camera package from $13,500 (most popular). 12-camera acreage from $18,000. Commercial 8-camera from $14,500. Body corporate small-medium from $22,000. Warehouse 16-20 cameras with AJAX alarm from $38,000. Beware quotes under $2,500 for 4 cameras — they’re typically Wi-Fi cameras with 12-month reseller warranty.
NVR vs cloud CCTV storage — which is better?
On-site NVR (Network Video Recorder) is the right choice for most Brisbane residential and commercial. No monthly subscription, you own the data, footage available even if internet drops. We install NVRs in lockable cabinets with UPS battery backup so power-outage tampering doesn’t lose footage. Cloud storage is useful for remote unattended sites (rural blocks, multi-site retail). Hybrid (NVR + cloud backup of critical event clips) is what we install for higher-value commercial.
Can I view Brisbane CCTV footage on my phone?
Yes — Dahua DMSS, Hanwha Wisenet Mobile, and AJAX Security System apps all support live view, playback, and event-push notifications on iOS and Android. We configure cybersecure remote access via Dahua’s P2P or VPN-based access, not direct port-forwarding (which is a common security mistake).
Alarm systems — general questions
What’s the best alarm system for Brisbane residential?
Mr Secured installs AJAX wireless alarm systems for residential. Grade 2 EN-50131 certified European wireless alarm with photo verification, 2,000m Jeweller radio range (for acreage perimeter sensors), and native Dahua CCTV integration. The honest comparison: Bosch Solution 6000 is the legacy Australian standard but the user app is materially worse than AJAX. AJAX is the right answer for most 2026 Brisbane homes.
Do I still need back-to-base monitoring with photo verification?
For residential — usually no, photo verification covers the same purpose at much lower monthly cost. For commercial — yes, back-to-base monitoring is required for insurance compliance on most commercial properties. Mr Secured configures both depending on the install type.
How much does an alarm system cost in Brisbane?
AJAX residential 1-zone with 8 sensors from $3,800. 2-zone with 12 sensors from $4,800. Commercial AJAX with 20+ sensors from $7,500. Add $1,200-$2,400/year for back-to-base monitoring (commercial). Photo verification is included in the base install.
Intercoms — apartment and body corporate
Who installs Akuvox intercoms in Brisbane?
Mr Secured Pty Ltd operates a dedicated apartment-building intercom brand — Intercom Solutions — that is an authorised Akuvox installer for Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Same QLD Class 2 licence (#4546326), same $20M PLI, same owner-installer. We install Akuvox R29S entrance panels, X912 concierge stations, IT82 indoor monitors, and SmartPlus Cloud across apartment buildings, body corporates, and high-rises.
Akuvox vs 2N vs Aiphone — what’s the best apartment intercom?
Honest answer: depends on building budget and resident demographics. Akuvox is the right answer for most mid-tier and premium body corporate buildings (best app, best per-unit cost at $700 over 5 years). 2N is premium-tier hardware with similar app maturity at ~$900 per unit over 5 years. Aiphone IXG is best when the body corporate has committed to absolute premium (~$1,000+ per unit). For full comparison see our Akuvox vs 2N vs Aiphone page.
How long does an apartment intercom install take?
For a 40-unit Brisbane apartment building with existing intercom backbone (Cat6 or fibre to each unit) — 2-3 weeks including configuration, resident onboarding, and SmartPlus app rollout. For a 40-unit building requiring cable retrofit — 4-6 weeks. We work around tenant schedules and provide weekly progress reports to the body corporate committee.
What’s lift integration with intercom and do we need it?
Lift integration sends a dry-contact or IP-relay signal from the intercom panel to the lift control panel when a resident’s credential is validated. The lift then opens for the resident’s floor only. For body corporate buildings with multiple floors, lift integration is the highest-value single feature of modern apartment intercoms — it eliminates the need for separate lift keys and prevents inter-floor unauthorised access. Compatible with KONE, Otis, ThyssenKrupp, Schindler, Mitsubishi.
Access control and gated estates
What access control system do you install in Brisbane?
Mr Secured installs Inception EVO (Inner Range) for commercial, body corporate, and gated estate access control. Australian-made, integrates with Dahua CCTV and AJAX alarms natively. Supports key fob, mobile credential, schedule-based access, and reporting. Brisbane CBD office tenants, body corporates, and Hope Island / Sanctuary Cove gated estates all run Inception EVO.
Verkada vs Inception EVO for SME access control?
Verkada is the cloud-SaaS subscription option — works well for multinational chains with no IT staff who want zero-config. For Australian SME buyers, Inception EVO delivers comparable functionality at one-third the 5-year TCO. See our detailed Verkada vs Dahua Australia comparison which covers the same architectural decision logic.
Brisbane-specific install considerations
Does Brisbane weather affect CCTV installs?
Yes — Queensland weather is hard on entrance hardware. UV degrades cheap cable insulation in 3-5 years (we use UV-rated CAT6 in all external runs). Humidity and salt-air (bayside suburbs like Wynnum, Manly, Cleveland) need stainless-steel mounts to prevent rust streaking on rendered walls. Storm season — all external cabling enters the dwelling at the lowest practical point to prevent rain-tracking. UPS backup on NVR prevents storm-outage tampering windows.
What about heritage suburbs like Paddington or Spring Hill?
Brisbane heritage suburbs have aesthetic restrictions. We install discrete black or charcoal cameras with subtle mounting that respects period character. Most heritage residences benefit from our Queenslander install pattern — discrete mounting, cabling concealed through subfloor or eaves rather than visible external runs.
Do you service Brisbane West acreage?
Yes — Mr Secured specialises in Brisbane West acreage installs (Bardon, Ashgrove, The Gap, Pullenvale, Brookfield, Anstead, Moggill, Bellbowrie). Acreage requires long-range Dahua varifocal cameras for driveway approaches, bushland-edge perimeter coverage, AJAX wireless alarm with 2,000m Jeweller radio for paddock-corner sensors, and solar-powered camera kits where mains power doesn’t reach. See our farm and rural security page.
Apartment, body corporate, and high-rise
How do body corporate intercom installs work?
Body corporate intercom installs are project-managed differently from residential. Our sister business Intercom Solutions handles this — AGM-ready proposal documentation, per-unit pricing, strata search compliance documentation, building manager handover with cloud admin training, and SLA-backed maintenance contracts (Bronze/Silver/Gold tiers). The body corporate decision-making process requires different documentation than residential — we adapt our quote format for AGM approval.
What happens if our intercom hardware is end-of-life (Aiphone GT-2H, etc)?
Intercom Solutions handles heritage Aiphone repairs and modernisation paths. Aiphone GT-2H and JO-1 series are increasingly end-of-life — replacement parts are getting scarce. We can usually keep your existing Aiphone running for 2-3 more years before forced upgrade, giving the body corporate time to budget for planned modernisation to Akuvox.
Reviews, accreditation, and warranty
How many Google reviews does Mr Secured have?
190+ five-star Google reviews under the Mr Secured Pty Ltd brand as of June 2026. The reviews span Brisbane residential CCTV, commercial CCTV, alarm installs, access control, and intercom work across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast. We’ve been featured nationally on the Channel 9 Today Show after a Mr Secured Gold Coast install caught intruders in real time.
What’s the warranty on a Mr Secured installation?
Manufacturer warranty on hardware: Dahua 3 years, Hanwha 5 years, AJAX 2 years, Akuvox 3 years, Inception EVO 5 years. PLUS Mr Secured installation warranty on cable, mounts, and configuration. We do not subcontract — the person who installed it is the person who returns. For commercial sites we offer annual maintenance contracts including firmware updates, lens cleaning, and storage health checks.
Do you provide commissioning documentation for strata search and insurance?
Yes. For body corporate and commercial installs we provide a signed commissioning report including credential test logs, fire-mode override testing (for lift integration), certificate of currency for $20M Public Liability Insurance, QLD Class 2 licence reference, hardware inventory and firmware version log. This documentation becomes part of the strata search record and is useful at unit sale time.
How to choose an installer
What should I ask a Brisbane CCTV installer before signing?
The honest checklist:
- What’s your QLD Class 2 Security Provider Licence number? (mandatory)
- Will the person who installs the system be the person who quoted it? (no subcontracting)
- What’s the warranty period — manufacturer AND your installation warranty?
- What hardware brand and model are you installing? (verify NDAA-compliance status)
- Do you provide written commissioning documentation?
- Can you provide a certificate of currency for Public Liability Insurance?
- Are you ASIAL member?
- Can you show recent five-star Google reviews from Brisbane installs?
Why is Mr Secured more expensive than budget installers?
See our detailed cost breakdown explanation. The short version: enterprise hardware (Dahua TiOC vs Wi-Fi cameras), Master Security Licence-holder install (not subcontracted), proper PoE+ cabling, $20M PLI insurance, manufacturer-warranty status. Budget installers cut on every line.
