One of the most common problems I see is people who’ve spent good money on a camera system and then discovered — after a break-in, or during a claim — that the cameras weren’t positioned where they needed to be. A camera pointing at the driveway when the intruder came through the back fence. A camera with an NVR that was only keeping 5 days of footage when the insurer needed 14. Small decisions made without knowing the property properly, compounding into a system that doesn’t deliver when it counts.
This is exactly why we offer a free on-site assessment before any quote. It takes 45 minutes and it changes the entire quality of what we install.
What Actually Happens During an Assessment
Jarrod walks the property — all of it. Front, rear, sides, garage, any outbuildings. He’s looking at sight lines, access points, lighting conditions at different times of day, where cables can realistically be run, and what the actual risk profile of the property looks like based on its layout and surroundings. He’s done enough of these to know within a few minutes where the genuine vulnerabilities are versus where a textbook camera placement guide would put cameras.
During the walkthrough he’ll ask about your specific concerns — whether it’s a recent incident nearby, a boundary dispute, concerns about package theft, or just wanting better visibility of who comes and goes. The system design should reflect your actual priorities, not a template.
What You Receive After the Assessment
After the walkthrough, you’ll get a clear recommendation on camera positions, camera count, and system configuration — including which NVR capacity makes sense for your footage retention requirements. If an alarm system or intercom would materially improve your security outcome, Jarrod will say so and explain why. If it wouldn’t, he’ll say that too.
The quote that follows is specific to your property, not a per-camera rate card. It includes cabling, installation labour, equipment, and configuration — everything you need to have a system that actually works. There are no hidden costs and no scope creep. If something changes on the day of installation, we tell you before we proceed.
Why This Matters More Than the Equipment You Choose
Most people focus on camera specifications — resolution, night vision range, AI features. These things matter, but they matter a lot less than whether the camera is in the right place. A 4K camera pointed at a wall is less useful than a 1080p camera with a clear line of sight to every entry point. Getting the placement right is the most important single decision in any security installation, and it can only be made properly by someone who’s physically seen the property.
We don’t design systems over the phone or from a floor plan. The assessment exists because shortcuts at the design stage produce systems that underperform — and we’d rather spend 45 minutes getting it right than have a client come back to us six months later wondering why their cameras missed something.
